My Unlikely Valentine

Thank you for wonderful author Susanna Leonard Hill  and her notorious famous writing contest, for the inspiration:

A Zombie Valentine

Robbie awoke with a start one morning.

His dad was in his room.

That shuffling walk. Those bloodshot eyes.  His dad reached towards him and…

“Yuck,” yelled Robbie.

He’d just been attacked by kissing zombie! Robbie hoped it wasn’t contagious.

He tried hiding in the bathroom, but it was locked. From inside, he could hear strange sighs, moans and…

“Ninety-nine bottles of milk on the wall…”

Had his sister become a singing zombie?

Robbie rushed downstairs and crashed into his mother. She wrapped stiff arms around him and squeezed. This is it, thought Robbie as he gasped for air.

His mom let go. “Have a good day,” she moaned.

Rubbing his ribs, Robbie hoped he didn’t meet any more hugging zombies.

He dashed out of the house, and raced down the street. Emily Peterson shuffled towards him.

Robbie stood his ground. Emily reached into her bag. Robbie prepared to run. Emily pushed a letter into his hands.

With trembling fingers, Robbie opened the envelope. Inside was something red — the color of blood and zombie eyes. His heart skipped a beat.

“Will you be my Valentine?” read Emily’s card.

Just then Robbie became a kissing zombie.

Greetings and Salutations
